Wastewater Treatment Plant Phase II Expansion

This second phase of the plant expansion replaced the rotating biological contactors (RBCs) with a third secondary clarifier and a fourth aerobic digester. The RBCs had exceeded their lifespan and were entering the high maintenance and high cost phase of use. PUB experienced bearing failures and shaft failures on the RBC equipment due to its age. The new facilities will continue with the first phase of the conversion to an aerobic treatment process. This project began construction in 2014 and is expected to be fully completed in 2016.
