Water

PUB operates the largest groundwater system in West Virginia, drawing source water from radial collector wells, then aerating, chemically treating, filtering, and disinfecting it before distribution. A network of storage tanks, booster stations, and hydrants delivers clean water to more than 15,800 service connections across the Greater Parkersburg area.

  • 12 MGD design capacity at the treatment plant
  • 5 radial collector wells feeding the system
  • 239 miles of water mains serving 15,800+ connections
  • 8 water storage tanks totaling 11.4 MG of storage
  • 11 pressure booster stations and 1,191 hydrants

Sewer

PUB's wastewater system collects sewage from 15,300 customers through gravity mains, force mains, and pumping stations, then treats it via screening, grit separation, clarification, aeration, and chlorination before discharging clean effluent to the Ohio River. Biosolids are digested, dewatered, and beneficially reused as a soil conditioner under the utility's Biosolids Management Program.

  • 10.4 MGD design · 32.7 MGD peak treatment capacity
  • ~5.9 million gallons treated daily; 2.15 billion last year
  • 224 miles of collection mains (215 gravity, 9.2 force)
  • 17 pumping stations (7 major, 11 minor)
  • NPDES-permitted discharge and land-applied biosolids
