Job Purpose
Performs a variety of manual and semi-skilled tasks in the operation, maintenance and construction of the water and sanitary sewer systems.
Duties & Responsibilities
- Performs multiple tasks in the construction and repair of the water and sanitary sewer systems, including pipe laying, operating 90 lb pavement breaker, operating compaction equipment, pouring and finishing concrete, asphalt replacement, truck driving, routine equipment maintenance, and lawn restoration.
- Responsible for the safe operation of the equipment utilized in the performance of the daily work.
- Required to perform, as may be necessary, work described at a lower grade which the employee is capable of performing.
Qualifications
- Willingness and ability to perform heavy manual work for an extended period under varying climatic conditions.
- Ability to understand and follow oral and written instructions.
- Ability to establish and maintain an effective working relationship with fellow employees and the general public.
- Ability to deal courteously with the public.
Experience & Education
Any combination of training, experience and education that could likely provide the required knowledge and abilities stated above, and the ability to perform the duties of the position would be qualifying. A typical way to obtain the knowledge and abilities would be: some experience in performing semi-skilled maintenance and/or construction tasks, and completion of a standard high school course.
Licenses & Certifications
- Possession of a valid West Virginia Class A commercial driver's license, or state of residence if other than West Virginia.
- Certification by the State of West Virginia as a Class C Wastewater Operator (desired but not required).
- Certification by the State of West Virginia as a Class WD Public Water System Operator (desired but not required).
Working Conditions
- Routine shift will be from 7:30 am to 4:00 pm, Monday through Friday, with overtime as needed.
- Work is conducted both indoors and outdoors regardless of weather conditions.
Physical Requirements · Heavy
- Ability to lift 75 pounds.
- Ability to move safely over uneven terrain.
- Ability to safely climb ladders and stairs multiple times daily.
- Ability to respond quickly to sounds.
- Ability to see and respond to dangerous situations.
- Ability to work in extreme weather.
- Ability to wear personal protective equipment correctly, when required.
